Central Square gains approval

The local centre square at St Andrew’s Park has recently received reserved matters approval. This 0.22ha area of public open space is located in the heart of the former RAF Uxbridge site, and forms a community node off the main north-south route through the development. The design provides a central paved area including an equipped play area with sculptural elements, extensive tree planting, and informal grass areas set alongside more formal seating opportunities.

There were a number of mature trees that had to be retained within the space. This presented a challenge to the designers who were able to overcome the constraints of large Root Protection Areas through the sympathetic selection of materials and well considered positioning of play equipment.
